Artist's Description

A train on the Redding Trestle crossing the Sacramento River in the rain. This was taken in Caldwell park near the Diestlehorst Bridge and the Lake Redding Bridge.

The Sacramento River railroad viaduct has been a favorite of photographers over the years. The 4,346-foot span with the Sacramento River canyon.

The construction of Shasta Dam in the late 1930s required the realignment of the Southern Pacific rail line. 26 miles of existing track along the south bank of the Sacramento River were destined to be inundated by Lake Shasta when the dam was completed.

The Redding trestle - a Warren deck truss bridge -was part of a project that included about 30 miles of new track, eight bridges and 12 tunnels. It cost About $15 million in Depression-era money.

About Marnie Patchett

Marnie Patchett

I'm an artist & photographer from Northern California, I grew up in the beauty of the Country but never really realized it and appreciated it until I started capturing it through the lens. My favorite type of photography is the long exposure photography, black and white, light trails and light painting. Having an image in my head and figuring out how to make it happen. I had no idea the possibilities of photography until I took it up a few years back, it's limitless. Learning and creating is a passion and an addiction.
