The Isaac Lee Patterson Memorial Bridge aka the Rogue River Bridge in the background with the Mary D. Hume (Steamer) shipwreck in the foreground. A stormy rainy day in Gold Beach Oregon made for some beautiful clouds. This is where the Rouge river runs into the Pacific Ocean.
The Mary D. Hume, built at this spot in 1881, had the longest active service of any commercial vessel on the Pacific coast, a total of 97 years as a freighter, whaling vessel, to towboat service.
She, broke after being docked here, it took seven years to rig a sling. When they tried to lift her out for repairs the sling broke. Then its structure failed. The boat fell and sank in four feet of water, this is where she remains. She was entered on the National Register of Historical places but she is not being preserved so less and less of her remains each year.
I'm an artist & photographer from Northern California, I grew up in the beauty of the Country but never really realized it and appreciated it until I started capturing it through the lens. My favorite type of photography is the long exposure photography, black and white, light trails and light painting. Having an image in my head and figuring out how to make it happen. I had no idea the possibilities of photography until I took it up a few years back, it's limitless. Learning and creating is a passion and an addiction. Well done, Marnie. The colors repeated just enough to pull in my eyes, and tie the image together. The clouds give a great mood to the subject. lf
Marnie Patchett replied:
Thank you.
